Sukha – What a wonderful and heavenly Shop in Amsterdam

THE STORY: Shopping-Hotspot in Amsterdam: Sukha

Sukha is a wonderful concept store in Amsterdam. This store has such a heavenly atmosphere that you really feel like its the entrance to heaven somehow. Everything in this eco-friendly shop is made out of wood, linen, cotton, flowers… all the things that really belong to our earth and the color palette fits perfectly: everything looks earthy, natural and heavenly! They do have an eye for handmade and unique items. You pay a certain price, for sure, but at least you know its eco-friendly and unique.

Sukha Amsterdam

The Sukha Shop is in Haarlemmerstraat, a cool district in Amsterdam where you can find some other nice shops, for example Six & Sons but, the best one, without lying is Sukha!

I met also the founder Irene Mertens at the Sukha shop. Irene had such a warm, feminin and light appearence. I think she perfectly represents her shop Sukha! This doesn’t happen very often.

When you meet her or see her shop you know that she carefully chooses every item that is in this shop, also if the product is even so small. Everything has his right place in this shop. Everything is perfectly decorated and every single corner finished to perfection. Also if you do have a look into the backyard: Everything is ready for a picture or a wonderful memory.

Sukha Amsterdam

If you enter the Sukha Shop you feel relaxed and calm immediately: everything is very light, lovely, bright, natural and feminin here.

Sukha is a name that sounds somehow strange to us Europeans, but Sukha actually has a meaning: It means “joy of life” in Sanskrit, a language of Buddhist monks from India and Nepal. And of course you can also find carefully choosen items from Nepal, Peru, Marocco or Holland in Irenes Shop. You can find clothing, interior, books, presents and other beautiful things.

Sukha presents all these items in a heavenly, white, airy and somehow simple warehouse. The only black thing in this shop are the ink-written poems and writings made by Barbara van den Berg on the walls, on postcards and calendars.

The prices are okay. I just looked at some of the items but i think that everything had the right price. I was in love with a tablecloth (made out of old laces) which, unfortunately was already sold when i was in Amsterdam (i have to admit this was one of the Top 3 reasons i went to Amsterdam -> To get this tablecloth!) The tablecloth was priced 700€ so im glad i didnt see it because im sure that i would have stayed at home for months to afford that tablecloth. Also the chandelier is beautiful, but i dont even want to know the price! Somehow i do always point on the most expensive things in a shop.

THERES NOTHING LEFT TO SAY…BESIDES “I LOVE SUKHA!”

There’s nothing left to say besides: I love Sukha. Irene, please maintain your concept because its unique, wonderful, lighty, airy and sooo sooo warm and heavenly. Of course Sukha is also on our Top 10 List for best interior Shopping in Amsterdam!
